  Deciphering the Risks of English Contracts with Foreign Companies

  Based on the author's experience as a practitioner and interviews with international liaison attorneys, this paper discusses contract and investment risks associated with international business, particularly the risks inherent in English-language contracts and how to handle contract negotiations, with the aim of hedging contract risks when small- and medium-sized local companies with limited management resources expand overseas. The purpose of this seminar is to help small and medium-sized local companies with limited management resources to hedge contract risks when expanding their business overseas. In international business, it is important to have preventive legal affairs as a legal knowledge to settle problems at an early stage in order to avoid serious problems that may lead to court proceedings or arbitration. In this article, we will focus on the risks in English contracts from the viewpoint of preventive legal affairs, and will particularly focus on those matters that require special attention.
