■ Title
Using the Text Cross National Boundaries to teach Upper-intermediate and Advanced Classes, a Trial Syllabus
■ Outline
This report describes classes taught using the text "Cross National Boundaries" that were part of "comprehensive" courses in the Japanese Language Program (JLPTUFS) for upper-intermediate and advanced classes at the Japanese Language Center for International Students, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. While the manner in which the material was handled differed slightly depending upon the level, the report delineates how each part of the text was taught, the order in which the material was selected and the difficulties that were encountered in the process of teaching the material. Although some challenges remain to be solved from an instructional perspective, the text proved to be quite effective in developing the abilities of the students in the program.
